Beloved tree’s stump shows evidence of ill health

Recently the large cottonwood tree that stood next to the Ohuta Park seawall and for decades provided shade in the park was removed.
The city is replacing the seawall. And after an analysis of the tree revealed it was in poor health and could pose a danger to park users, the City Council approved its removal.
Admirers of the tree gathered near it to share memories and stories at a memorial service of sorts.
