Changes coming for derelict former downtown gas station

The Lake City Board of Adjustment gave its enthusiastic support to a project of one of its own members Tuesday, signalling big changes for a long-derelect corner of downtown.

Tom Rasmussen told the board he purchased the former Get-N-Go property at 211 N. Lakeshore Dr. about a month and a half ago and spent much of that time struggling with a decision of whether to demolish the former gas station.

The building has been vacant since about 2010, city Planning and Community Development Director Megan Smith told the board.
