City Council may tighten leash law

More restrictive rules for dogs and their people could be on the way for Lake City.
On Monday, Dec. 10, the city council waived a first reading of an ordinance that would require dogs within the city limits to be leashed when off the premises of its owner.
Current city ordinance allows dogs to be unleashed as long as someone responsible is present and able to control the dogs by command as effectively as if they were leashed.
If the new ordinance passes, people with an unleashed dog could be convicted of a misdemeanor.
