City Council plans Mayo negotiations

A committee headed by Lake City City Councilmember Phil Gartner got the go-ahead Monday to negotiate directly with Mayo Clinic Health System on the city’s behalf over the hospital lease agreement between the city and Mayo.

The existing lease agreement, signed in 1998, gradually transitions ownership of the hospital to Mayo over 30 years while spelling out a governance structure that includes a nine-member local board of trustees with four community members, one of which is determined by the City Council.
