City Council primary recount ends in draw

A high-card draw will determine whether John Mead or Tom Dwelle’s name appears on the Nov. 8 City Council ballot after a hand recount of the Aug. 9 primary election results revealed a tie for the sixth and final spot.

Dwelle had 238 votes to Mead’s 237 going into the recount, which took place Aug. 16 for the Goodhue County precinct and Aug. 17 for the three Wabasha County precincts. Votes for Mary Jane Rasmussen were also recounted.

Dwelle’s vote total shrank by one in Lake City’s first precinct, leading to a tie.
