City weathers bitter cold snap

A bitter streak of days where temperatures remained mostly below zero appear to be coming to an end.

A mostly mild winter has given way to plunging temps as the Lake City-area, along with most of the nation, has found itself mired in cold, even for winter, weather.

Lake City Public Works Director Scott Jensen said a public works employee went down a manhole with a tape measure to find a frost depth of 45 inches.

That’s still about two feet or more short of most of the city’s water mains, he said.
