Council approves firefighter pay increase

Lake City volunteer firefighters are getting a raise.

On Monday the Lake City City Council approved raising the pay rate for the time firefighters are responding to calls from $12 per hour to $15 per hour.

The rate of pay for being on call (about 45 cents an hour) and officer pay will remain the same.

Before the vote, Lake City Fire Chief Dan Patterson told the council that he thought the increase was warranted because of the specialties Lake City firefighters practice and the ever-increasing training requirements.
