Council questions applying bills to taxes

A proposal to collect unpaid ambulance service bills through property taxes received a chilly reception from Lake City City Council members at the meeting on Nov. 13.

The proposed ordinance would allow the city, under certain circumstances, to certify unpaid utility and ambulance charges against real property in the city, essentially adding them to the recipient’s property tax bill. Individual assessments would require council approval.
