Downed trees, power outages in storm’s wake

A storm with high winds passed through the area Thursday night, causing downed trees, power outages, a fire, and an unexpected uptick in the population at the care center at Mayo Clinic Health System in Lake City.

Severe weather spotters from Lake City were activated at 6:53 p.m., according to John Yorde, who leads the city’s emergency operations center. He sent a message to the volunteers who work in the emergency operations center at the public safety building to be ready to be called for duty.
