Dredge sand re-examined

A program recently announced by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer seeking proposals for “beneficial uses” of dredge sand has attracted the attention of Lake City officials.

At a City Council workshop on Feb. 12, Mayor Mark Nichols recalled a meeting between the city, the Corps, the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources in December where the city laid out its plans.

“(T)he Corps was interested exclusively with what to do with the sand in Wabasha,” he said.
