Goodhue County Commissioners spar over board's role

The role of commissioners in departmental issues came up among Goodhue County Commissioners April 5 during a discussion of highway department staffing.

County Administrator Scott Arneson said that during the March 15 board meeting the commissioner’s had discussed replacing a highway maintenance employee when notice of his retirement was received, but no action had been taken.

He said staff has since requested a motion to replace that worker, contingent on written notice of his retirement. A motion was made and seconded to rehire when there is a vacancy.
