Highway 61 to get a major new configuration in Lake City

Local officials see opportunity

Lake City residents, and visitors, may have a new-looking Highway 61 running through town in three years.

And it might become possible for people to cross that highway on foot.

The City Council in a special workshop meeting Monday night, showed enthusiasm for the preliminary plans. The council urged local staff members to move quickly on the two-pronged next step of the process: getting feedback from local residents and negotiating with the state transportation department.
