Kids grow snacks outside their window

Amanda Durand, the director of the Lake City Public School childcare program Tiger Time, said she was unsure at first whether children would show any interest in tending a garden over the summer.

The school received grant money from the State Health Improvement Program (SHIP) and a private donation of soil that allowed it to construct and fill two four-feet-by-eight-feet elevated gardens with tomatoes, peppers, kohlrabi and other vegetables at Bluff View Elementary School.
