Lake City levy up 3.54 percent

The Lake City City Council voted unanimously Sept. 9 to approve a 2020 preliminary property tax levy of $3,586,850, a 3.54 percent increase over this year.

State law requires cities to set a preliminary levy by the end of September. The council could decide to lower the levy, but not increase it, when a final levy amount is approved later this year.

It’s the second straight year of levy increases in the 3.5 percent range, accomplishing a goal set by the council at a July workshop when the potential increase was closer to 4.5 percent.
