Leashes required in Lake City

Unleashed dogs are no longer allowed in public in Lake City.

On Jan. 14, the city council unanimously approved an ordinance change that will classify unleashed dogs as at large. Owners of at-large dogs could be charged with a misdemeanor.

Previously dogs were allowed to be unleashed as long as they were under control by voice commands as if they were leashed.

The city’s public safety board twice unanimously recommended the change in response to a complaint received from a member of the public.
