Limited space and high cost spur compost site discussions

The City of Lake City’s compost site on Territorial Road closed for the season Wednesday, Nov. 25. When it opens again in the spring there could be new policies in place.

Costs and space have become an issue at the compost site.

City Public Works Director Scott Jensen told the City Council on Nov. 9 that the city used to pay for just the cost of bringing in equipment. The contractor would grind the material up and haul it away at no additional cost because there was a market for the ground up material.
