Mayor pushes to trim levy increase

During a budget presentation from city staff showing a possible 4.58 percent increase in the city property tax levy on June 10, Lake City Mayor Mark Nichols said he’d like to see that number come down.

“Last year we had an increase of 3.6 percent,” he said. “I would like to see us tow that line. We’re way over inflation.”

The comments came following a budget presentation by city Finance Director Amy Hove.

An overview provided to the council shows the levy increasing from $3.464 million this year to $3.623 million in 2020.
