Push to reclaim spalling streets fails

A divided City Council on June 10 twice voted down motions to reclaim and repave several streets on the city’s south side before settling on a partial fix until the road can be reclaimed in 2021.

Residents on Lilac Lane and nearby streets have lobbied the council for months to do something about streets they say have severely deteriorated.

A five year street plan that would have reclaimed the streets this year was amended last fall to delay the project two years after city staff determined the streets were not in need of reclamation so soon.
