River forecast to rise above flood stage

Flooding is expected on the Mississippi River at Lake City for the first time since 2019.

Lake City is under a Flood Warning from the National Weather Service, with water levels forecast to reach 17.1 feet early next week and possibly go higher before cresting.

The weather service defines minor flooding in Lake City as water levels between 16 feet and 18 feet. Moderate flooding is water levels between 18 feet and 20 feet. Major flooding is water levels over 20 feet.
