The Lake City School Board on Dec. 21 approved an 8.78 percent increase to the school district property tax levy.
The total certified levy amount of about $4.62 million was a neary $373,000 increase over the 2020 levy.
Compared with cities or counties, school districts have limited discretion to raise taxes. Often they have to received voter approval through a referendum, as Lake City has done with its operating levy and the bonds to finance construction projects like the recent Bluff View Elementary School expansion.
