Shoreline cottonwood to be removed

The Lake City City Council voted unanimously to remove a large cottonwood tree growing near an Ohuta Park seawall that’s due to be replaced.

Due to its proximity to the wall, the city commissioned a tree assessment that identified “significant risks” to safety posed by the tree in its current condition, according to the Feb. 12 council agenda.

The assessment conducted by the firm Davey gave the tree a risk rating “High” owing to problems with the canopy and trunk of the tree.
