Three honored for Lake Pepin rescue

A Lake City Firefighter, a Wabasha County Sheriff’s Deputy, and a Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer are being honored with lifesaving awards for a rescue on Lake Pepin last July.

According to the Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office incident report, Lake City Firefighter Matt Herzig, who is also a Lake City Marina employee, was out on Lake Pepin the morning of July 18 attempting to assist a swimmer in apparent distress who had been in the water over an hour and who was refusing help.
