Unusual storm blows through, causing damage and power outages

A rare December severe thunderstorm system spanning hundreds of miles and spawning numerous tornados across the north-central United States caused wind damage and power outages in the Lake City area on Wednesday, Dec. 15.

The National Weather Service called the storm system a “serial derecho.” According to the service, such storms are rare and usually the result of summer heat and humidity.

Though there were no confirmed reports of tornados locally, high winds swept through the area.
