Zumbro Falls loses a longtime leader
The Zumbro Falls fire station was eerily quiet at midmorning Saturday.
It was supposed to be time for the fire department’s annual open house. But there was no one around. All the fire trucks were gone. A lone yellow truck from the Mazeppa Fire Department sat out front.
The fire extingisher inspections were cancelled. There were coffee pots out and cookies and donuts available for anyone who hadn’t gotten the word. It appeared everyone had.
On Wednesday, Dale Preble, a longtime Zumbro Falls fireman, died unexpectedly at age 50.
