What's it all about? Two reunions in one day
Did you know there are 24,288 broken center line dashes or stripes on the 230 highway miles from Lake City to Tyler? I am not sure why any sane person would have a ready answer to that question. But on my way to my 65th class reunion with my mental capacity possibly in doubt, I had nothing else to do other than pay attention to my driving, (the radio is always off) so I decided to embark on this counting challenge. There are 105.6 skip lines per mile on a standard Minnesota highway. The skip lines are typically 10 feet long (may vary in some cities and counties) and the gap to the next one is 40 feet. They are 4 inches wide. I traveled a total of 460 miles there and back, times 105.6 skip lines per mile equals 48,567 broken center lines or dashes. To be assured of being accurate I counted them again on my way home and found 49 fewer—it was getting dark.
