Roxy Henderson obituary
Lake City lost a pillar of our community on September 4, 2026 when Roxy Helen (Dixon) Henderson was born to eternal life at Elysian of Lake City. Born to Harvey and Helen (Butler) Dixon on December 28, 1937, she spent her early life in the Brainerd, Minnesota area where she met, married, and is now reunited in heaven with her husband and soulmate of over 70 years, David Henderson.
Known for her commitment to volunteerism, she was awarded the highest national honor presented to a volunteer by the American Cancer Society as a recipient of the Therese Lassiter Award, and was the honorary chairperson for Lake City’s Relay for Life. She also received the District Award of Merit for her service to the Boy Scouts of America. Faithfully, she was an active member of the First Congregational Church, serving as a board member, treasurer, clerk and choir member. She was also a member of AFS (foreign student exchange), hosting two international students, and enjoyed singing in a barbershop quartet for over a decade. Civically, she served on the Lake City Public Safety Board and was the treasurer of the Arts Council.
Professionally, after attending cosmetology school in St. Cloud, Minnesota, she shifted to accounting before retiring and putting her efforts toward becoming a popular fixture at local craft fairs where she showcased her ceramic artistry.
Survivors include one daughter, Tanya (Kambous) Eelani of Fort Worth, Texas; two sons, Kerry (Kathy) Henderson of Cedarburg, Wisconsin and David Clay (Ivonne Morillo) Henderson of Allen, Texas; six grandchildren, Cyrus Bardiya (Sara) Eelani of Boston, Massachusetts, Braeden Henderson of Proctor, Minnesota, Jennifer (Richard) Wheeler of Boscobel, Wisconsin, Steven Henderson of Grafton, Wisconsin, Giselle Henderson of Allen, Texas, and Christopher Morillo of Allen, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Ayla Eelani and Julianna Morillo, along with extended family Pamela, Whitney (Cord), Paisley and Presley Befort-Paul of Lake City. She was preceded in death by her husband, David; her parents; step-dad Walter Kunow; and half-sister, Marie Kubis.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 11 p.m., at the First Congregational Church with Pastor David Badgley officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Mahn Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City, and one hour before the service at the church.
