Essay contest runner-up - Putting the ‘LID’ on Why History Matters

Editor’s note: The following essay was the runner-up of this year’s Why History Matters essay contest for Lincoln High School Advanced Placement History students.

History matters in three distinct ways, which I have affectionately named “LID”. This stands for our ability to learn from, be inspired by, and discover history. These principles are not only why it’s important to me but I believe that they are the foundation for why history is taught, preserved, and cherished worldwide.
