Smith’s 1st place squat qualifies him for national competition

In his first powerlifting competition, Matt Smith set a Minnesota record in the Masters 2 class with a 501.6 pound squat.  The meet, USA Powerlifting American Strength Masters Brawl, took place on April 21 in Maplewood.
As a result of his performance at the Maplewood meet, Matt has been asked to join a team at the national competition, USA Powerlifting Raw National in Spokane, Wash. October 10-15.
Matt has been lifting on and off since he was 16, but started training for powerlifting at Anytime Fitness in Lake City, just six months before the Maplewood contest.
