Star athlete's advice: Listen to your mom

In 2006, Bluff View fourth grader Breanna Gates was a little girl with a dream, and that dream was to play hockey.

“(My mom) and my sister played basketball and I wanted to be different,” said Gates, who didn’t like basketball at the time. Her mother, Brittney Hirschauer, said no. “She told me: ‘just stick with basketball because I’m not changing schools so you can play hockey,’” Gates said.
