Torch: A history of Lake City volleyball

“The whole sport, not just the program, has improved since I played.  We were the first. We started it because of Title IX,” shares Cindy McGrath, a former player and coach of the Lake City volleyball program.  She played on the varsity team from 1975 to 1977 and coached from 1997 to 2000.

The Lake City Volleyball Program started around 1974 along with all other women’s sports at Lincoln.  Before Title IX, intramural sports were only offered to women. “We just played against other girls from our school, it was fun,” comments McGrath.
