Hwy. 61 revisited: Council spars over three-lane
All the ingredients necessary to re-ignite the debate over the fate of a stretch of Highway 61 in Lake City were present at the Aug. 16 city council meeting.
Opponents of the project were emboldened by primary election results on Tuesday, Aug. 14, where two of the top three vote-getters are against the current plan to convert the four-lane stretch to three lanes. Voters will elect three of the remaining six candidates to the council in the Nov. 6 general election.
