A sign of spring

The helmeted driver enters the car, pulls on leather driving gloves, adjusts the seatbelt and shoulder harness, hunches over the wheel and prepares to drive. A stock car race? A drag strip? No, simply a local motorist preparing to hit the road in hope of dodging those open-mouthed, tire devouring, bone crunching, bottomless, bowl-shaped road cavities called potholes.
