Seventy-five years ago, when I was a lad, everyone including men, women and many kids wore some type of hat. In the late 50’s and early 60’s everything changed. People began going out hatless for several reasons. The youth of the 60’s rebelled against the traditional norms including dress codes. Hats can be cumbersome while in a car, and men were always looking for a hat shelf when entering a church or public building. Influential people like President JFK rarely wore a hat. In 1963 the mop-topped Beatles appeared and flaunted their hatless heads.
