Letter was intended to stoke misplaced fear about education
In a letter last week, a writer uses the dog whistle “Critical Race Theory or CRT” to advance an agenda of fear. The writer distorts a proposed licensing standard to support their position. When someone quotes only portions of a document, taking things out of context, they usually have a motive; in this case, that motive appears to be fear over the direction of our school system.
I read the actual proposed licensing standard (Rule 8710.2), and it appears they selectively used text that they thought would evoke a negative emotion rather than fully quoting the document.
