Port Authority should follow charter provisions on Lakeshore Drive land sale
In the stewardship of land donated to Lake City, our new Port Authority (the former Economic Development Authority) has championed the wrong client. The Port Authority’s duty is to serve the public, not to facilitate a financial windfall for a prospective buyer.
In 2006, the citizens of Lake City overwhelmingly approved a charter amendment giving city residents the right to vote on whether or not to sell public land within the charter’s lakefront protection area.
