Scams: When good news is actually bad
A number of area residents have received calls in the past few weeks with the news that they have won the Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes. The caller insists that to claim their prize, the winner must first send money to pay for taxes and fees. It’s a scam and the scammer wants your money. Publishers Clearing House does not notify people by telephone or email. And they never require payment of any kind from the winners.
